there really isnt a general tactic. get a feel for your opponent and try to take advantage of his tendencies. i have a blog in its early stages geared towards teaching newer players how to win at poker. come check it out. rakemonster.rakebackpartners.com under the news tab.
In my opinion, have patience. Be able to wait for a hand where you know you will win. Never go all in unless your sure you will win. Dont always watch for what hand you have, but think of the hands your oponents might have. Dont raise it to high to fast.

dont try and draw out on a made hand. if the other person is betting and u’ve got nothing u should probably fold.
dont call with nothing
learn when to fold
learn to play the other persons hand as well as urs. when did they bet why did they bet.
IF U WANT TO WIN THE CHAMPIONSHIP U PLAY CHAMPIONSHIP HANDS. AKA THROW AWAY GARBAGE

There are literally thousands of differnet poker strategies. My advice would be to do a lot of reading on poker (there is a ton of info on the internet) and to play as much as you can (not for real money if your just starting out). Great poker information here:
