Texas Holdem Poker : Can you explain pot odds? If there is 200$ in the pot and you have to call 50$?

Do you do the 50/200 or 50/250? I have read both in common holdem books. I understand outs and implied odds.

Say there’s $150 in the pot. If your opponent bets $50, then there’s now $200 in the pot and you have to call $50. The in this case are 200/50 or 4 to 1.

To make this call profitable, you must expect to win the hand one out of FIVE times with 4 to 1 pot odds. To figure out the percentage of the time you must win, you divide 50/250 (in other words, the total you must call divided by the total amount you get back if you win) which is .20 or 20% of the time.

So in summary, when you win you’re getting paid off 4 to 1, which means you must win more than 20% of the time or 1 out of 5 times to be profitable.

you’re getting 4:1 on a call. So if you have anything better than a 4:1 chance to win, you will have an edge in the long run.

it would be the 50/250 because thats the total pot and what u have to calculate to make the call, so if ur hand is going to win over 20% of the time it is the right call although im not huge on the pot odds I would say why is this guy throwing out a relatively weak bet into a $200 pot 2 questions i would ask is he afraid or does he have the hand already won cause that essentially is what u are faced with and odds or not im gonna try to get the guy who is afraid off the pot regardless of my hand, given we each have large chip stacks

and the guy who just answered 4:1 is not right ill tell u that, i dnt know why ppl get so confused with pot odds the hard part is not even calculating the odds its exactly how many of your outs are live against your opponent

u guys are fing retarded whoever gave thumbs down learn the game before u give thumbs down. Think about it for just 1 sec the guy bet 50 to him which is in the pot so he is potential calling 50 to make $250 in profits the 50 the guy bet is in the pot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so it is factored in the total pot can anyone put this in any simpler terms because apparently answers doesnt really have anyone who actually plays the game? or maybe they do but dont understand basic concepts

    to call 50 into 200

providing it is on turn, you need a 26% chance of winning e.g. if you need high heart to make a flush 1/5 or 20% you should fold.

you don’t really need to know the numbers of pot odds because as you play more you will develop an instinct when to call

A call for $50.00 into a pot that is $200.00 is a pot that is giving you 5 to 1 odds. You win 1 out of 5 times and you break even.

You are betting 50 to win the 200 that’s already in the pot. Thus, your payout is 200:50, or 4:1.

The amount of your winnings is your profit, not including the amount of your bet. That’s why the poker announcers say "You’re getting 4 to 1 on your money."

In some of the less reputable casino games (sic-bo and some of the proposition bets in craps, for instance), you will see payouts listed as "5 for 1", or "pays 5". This is done to make it look like you’re winning more than you are. In reality, this is the same as a 4:1 payout.

you are getting 4:1 on a call. This is a better chance to win. Go for it…
